5 Day Desert Tour from Fes

Overview:

Five-day tour from Fes to Merzouga desert goes through the wonderful landscapes of the Middle Atlas Mountains, Gorges and Sahara Desert oasis including a camel ride in Erg Chebbi sand dunes for one night.

5 Day Desert Tour from Fes Itinerary:

Day 1: Fes – Ifrane – Azrou – Middle Atlas Mountains – Todra Gorges

After breakfast, we will leave Fez driving towards Todra Gorges through Ifrane to reach Azrou where we will visit Cedar Forests where the monkeys are sheltered. Taking pictures of the beautiful views  before the journey resumes. Lunch will be in Zaida’s modest Berber village. We continue the ride through the Atlas Mountains to admire Medilt’s scenery to get to Rich’s small town. Here, we move right to pass through through the famous village Imilchil before arriving at Toudra Gorges in the evening.

Day 2: Todra Gorges – Jorf – Erfoud – Merzouga

(Camel Ride & Night in Desert)

We’re going from Toudra Gorges to Merzouga after breakfast. On the way, you will see several Berber villages are scattered along the road. We will move through Tinjdad, Jorf and Erfoud where we will sense the beginning of Tafilalet’s Saharan oasis. And then proceed to Merzouga, and then we go to ride the camels in the erg Chebbi dunes after refreshing in Merzouga. It’s a wonderful experience to imagine riding a camel in erg chebbi where the desert’s quietness is the dominant, reaching the camp, leaving the camels and walking to a high sand dune for sandboarding and watching the sunset. Dinner is going to be served with Berber drum music under a Berber tent.

Day 3: Merzouga – Berber Families – Black Desert – Merzouga Desert Camp

We ride the camel’s back to Merzouga after an early sunrise in the dunes. After breakfast and shower, we will drive on our way to Kamlia to explore the small villages around Erg Chebbi dunes including (HassiLabied, Merdani, Khamlia, M’fis) where we expect to meet locals showing their desert foxes. Leaving Khamlia, then our next stop is going to be on the spectacular view of the golden dunes on the Algerian border, we will pause for a picnic lunch under the shade of a tree before heading to visit a family of Nomads who live in the Berber tent and look after herds of sheep, goats and camels. When enjoying the taste of a nice cup of tea, you will be introduced to family members and learn about their way of life. You will then have the opportunity to visit the sites of black volcanic rocks. Then, you will hit the panoramic view near Yasmina lake where you will be fascinated by the dune landscape in addition to the nearby lake (springtime) and then return to Merzouga, overnight will be in a hotel next to the dunes.

Day 4:– Nomad People – Safsaf Desert Oasis – Erg Chebbi Dunes – Merzouga Desert

We will start this day trip about 8:00 a.m. crossing the black desert to SafSaf Oasis, we will pause during the journey to enjoy the landscapes and meet a nomadic Berber family with those whom we will share a typical mint tea under the welcoming shade of a Berber tent. We’re going to continue until we reach our SafSaf Oasis target. It’s an incredible place. Palm trees and lakes between high, uninhabited hills appear wild, lush vegetation, passing through a stream with the same name (SafSaf) where we can swim. We’re going to have lunch in this heavenly setting. Before sunset, we’re going to leave SafSaf to the tisserdmin oasis with its water contrasts, vegetation rock and sand. We must pause to visit the dunes before returning to Merzouga, overnight at the hotel near dunes.

Day 5: Merzouga – Er rissani – Ziz Valley – Azrou – Ifrane – Fes

We will drive back to Fes after having a shower and breakfast. We pause on the road to drink a mint tea with a nomadic family before going back through the mountains of the High Atlas. We will also make a stop by a Berber village called Midelt where we are going to have lunch. This town is at 1488 meters of altitude. It is a very spectacular mountain situated below the Jbel Ayachi (3737 m). We will travel to the historic city of Fes in the afternoon.
